Canada held New Zealand to a 1-1 draw in a battle between two Rio Olympic bound teams at the Azlan Shah Cup.

Canada lost their opening match 3-1 against Pakistan while New Zealand were hold to a 3-3 draw by hosts Malaysia.

Canada were awarded two penalty corners in the first quarter but failed to get the better of the Kiwi keeper  Devon Manchester.

But they managed to get their act right in the 25th monte as Gordon Johnson converted their fifth penalty corner to give them the lead.

The Kiwis were a pale shadow of the side that played so well the previous night, mist-traps at penalty corners a cause of concern,

The Black Sticks squandered another three penalty corners early in the third quarter and that made their task all the more difficult.

Nick Woods finally got it right in the 45th minute to draw New Zealand level from their eight penalty corner.

Try as they did, New Zraland could not do the needful to gain all three points.
