Gonzalo Peillat scored three goals from penalty corners to steer Argentina defeat India 3-2 at the Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh today.
Ironically in a match that was affected by rain, all five goals came from penalty corners with India”s Amit Rohidass scoring a brace.
Argentina earned two consecutive penalty corners in the 13th minute and Peillat gave the 2016 Olympic medallist a 1-0 lead.
Peillat doubled the advantage in the 24th minute from their third penalty corner .
Amit Rohidas pulled one back for India in the 26th minute.
Rohidas needed only one minute upon resumption after halftime to level the scores at 2-2 as he converted another penalty corners in the 31st minute.
However Argentina was quick to respond as barely two minutes later Peliat completed his hattrick to give the South Americans a 3-2 lead.
The fourth quarter was disrupted by heavy rain with 11 minutes remaining and after a delay of 30 minutes the match resumed but both teams could not get their game going.
Both teams have met a total of 26 times since the 1948 Olympics with the Indians winning 11 matches.
Their last encounter in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup was way back in 2012 with the South Americans pulling off a 3-2 victory in a pool match.
